Rome Photography Workshop
September 9 to 13, 2024

“I am back in Athens and want to thank you for teaching street photography. Now I know how to throw away all my hesitations in taking pictures in the street ...” —Popi Tsoukatou

The Rome Street Photography Workshop is an immersive experience with four day and one night street photography sessions, accompanied by Steve. The workshop includes presentations on the practice and ethics of street photography, each one in a different area of Rome, a viewing of students' work, and a final critique. Steve will share his methods of street photography using the methods he has taught at the International Center of Photography in NYC, Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, and Toscana Photography Workshops in Buonconvento, Italy.

The Rome Street Photography Workshop is focused on people and architecture with the goal of connecting with people anywhere you travel. This is a unique opportunity for photographers to visit Rome and make a portfolio of photographs of the amazingly vibrant and passionate Italian people and their culture.

This is a workshop for all levels. To participate, you don’t need to be an expert photographer; you only need to be open to new experiences and ways of interacting with the world. You may use any handheld camera, film or digital: DSLR, SLR, MILC, TLR, cell phone, or low-tec (e.g., Holga, Diana, Camp Snap).

Steve will also be available to work with you individually on technical issues you may be experiencing.

Steve Anchell is the author of The Darkroom Cookbook, The Film Developing Cookbook, and MILC: Getting the Most from your Mirrorless Camera

Steve has taught street and documentary photography for the International Center of Photography in NYC, Santa Fe Photography Workshops, and Oregon State University. He has been leading street photography workshops in Cuba since 2001.

“Thanks for a great time! I learnt much and realized much of what I had been doing was not correct, or at least not ideal. Hope to wor with you again in the future.” —Piang Ngok Chong, Singapore
