You haven’t seen the real Cuba until you’ve been to Santiago de Cuba. One thousand miles as the crow flies and light years apart from Havana, Santiago de Cuba is the center of Afro-Cuban culture and the Santeria religion. Everything in Cuba begins in Santiago, from music to revolutions, and it’s all fueled by rum.  At least one visit to Santiago is essential to fully understand Cuba.

In Santiago you will work on street photography both on your own and with the group. During the week we'll take day trips to the Spanish fortress of El Morro; the famous Our Lady of Charity of El Cobre church where Pope Francis held Mass; and the historic and picturesque town of Bayamo. We will have dinner and traditional music on the island of Cayo Granma; listen to jazz at the Iris Jazz Club and dance to traditional Cuban music at Casa de la Trova, across the street from the Hotel Casa Granda.

You will travel with veteran photographer and former Oregon State University photography instructor, Steve Anchell, and joined by Cuban photography instructors. Steve has been teaching workshops in Cuba since 2001, and has traveled to Santiago on numerous occasions.
